คำอธิบาย / บทคัดย่อ |
This article aims to raise awareness and call for possible revisions to student assessment in Thailand at both the classroom and national levels. This is done by examining the common practices of classroom assessment and comparing national tests crested by the Bureau of Education Testing of Thailand with those provided by several states in America which have a similar educational system standard-based education. Art the classroom level, tests with clearly understandable rubric scales need to be designed to reflect the expected learning outcomes based on benchmarks for each standard. This information also needs to be openly stated in the course outline so that the students will have sample opportunities to improve themselves and also know in advance what they are expected to achieve. Similarly, regarding the Thai national tests, more information and guidelines are needed for all parties involved in education namely, students, teachers, parents, local communities and educators to understand more fully how the students can be helped to improved and high educational standards can be achieved. Therefore, accountability in setting the national tests is required and the aims of testing students may need to be revised. The public and all authorities concerned need to ask themselves whether students should be assessed by standard -based tests or by standardized tests which might not reflect local standards.
