This research is aimed to study the satisfactions and attitudes of students who had pated in the community-base learning project toward the fieldwork advisors, supervisors and also to review the distinctive characteristics of student, strengths and weakness of the project as well as students’ recommendations. The 80 students who worked in the project, Chiang Mai province during April 1-May 30, 2002 were asked to fill out a set of questionnaire.
The findings were as follows:
1. Most of the participated students were the third year female students from Chiang Mai University
2. The community and urban planning activity was the activity participated by students from most various disciplines.
3. The areas of implementation, people’s cooperation, project management were considered satisfying at a high level.
4. Knowledge’s of the project, reasonable of payment and monthly wages were considered satisfying at a fair level.
5. The activities matched with the local people’s need and could solve the community problem at a fair level.
6. Most students were highly satisfied with the good relationships, good performance and the democratic spirit of the supervisors. And they were most satisfied with the fieldwork advisor’s friendliness, sociability, responsibility, helpful advice and there attempts to inculcate ethics and virtue to the students.
7. For their own performance students were satisfied at a high level with their diligence, endurance, self-confidences are interpersonal skills.
8. According to the significant of the project, student felt the project had a variety of activities which aimed to the develop community. The students, fieldwork advisors, supervisors and local people worked with good cooperation and student had gained experiences from actual performance.
9. Some weak point of the project was the ineffective cooperation among fieldwork advisors, supervisors and representatives from relevant organizations both public and private. The operation had been conducted during too rush a period.
10. The recommendations from the students to the project were: Fieldwork advisors, supervisors should be trained, Promotion activities should be done regularly through the period of the project. The university should take the role of surveying and selecting the area. Activities should be designed by all participants to meet the community’s real need.
11. This kind of project must be continually organized to sustain and strengthen the community development.
